Members of the Abilene Seventh-day Adventist Church recently launched an outreach initiative to share the message of hope found in The Great Controversy with Kinyarwanda-speaking families in their community.

The outreach began June 11, when five young people visited an apartment complex in Abilene that is home to seven Kinyarwanda-speaking families. During the visit, the youth distributed nine copies of The Great Controversy and spent time connecting with residents.

The effort is part of an ongoing mission to place a copy of The Great Controversy in every Kinyarwanda-speaking household in the Abilene area. The church plans to continue the outreach twice each month, with the next event scheduled at another apartment complex on June 25 in partnership with the women's ministries.

The ministry builds on the growth of a Kinyarwanda-speaking group established in Abilene in August 2024. Prior to the formation of the group, many Kinyarwanda-speaking residents did not attend church regularly because of language barriers. Through intentional visitation and relationship-building, Pastor Rukundo Nsengiyumva and church members connected with families throughout the community, many of whom had been attending other churches or were not actively involved in a faith community.

Today, many of those families participate in the Kinyarwanda-speaking group and continue growing in their faith. Encouraged by the response, church members plan to continue reaching additional families through literature evangelism and personal ministry.
