Hey! You're not gonna believe this story I heard about David and this huge giant named Goliath. It's so cool.
So the Israelites (that's God's special people) were fighting these mean guys called Philistines. The Philistines had this humongous soldier named Goliath. He was taller than two grown-ups stacked on top of each other!
Every day, this giant Goliath would stomp out and shout, "Send someone to fight me! If he wins, we'll be your servants. But if I win, you'll be our servants." He was such a big bully. And he said mean things about God too.
All the Israelite soldiers were super scared—even King Saul! They were all hiding and shaking like when there's thunder and lightning.
Then one day, David came to bring lunch to his big brothers, who were soldiers. When he heard Goliath being all mean and stuff, David was like, "Why is everyone so scared? I'll fight him!"
The soldiers laughed at David because he was just a kid! Like your age, or maybe a little bigger. They were like, "No way, you're too little."
But David told King Saul, "I take care of my dad's sheep, and sometimes lions and bears try to eat them. I grab those meanies and whack them! God helped me beat up lions, so He'll help me beat this giant too."
King Saul tried to give David heavy armor and a big sword, but David was like, "I can't even walk in this stuff!" So he just took his shepherd's staff and his slingshot.
David went to a stream and picked up five smooth stones. Just regular rocks! Then he walked right up to the giant.
Goliath started laughing when he saw little David. He was all, "Am I a dog that you come at me with sticks? I'll feed you to the birds!"
But David shouted back, "You come with a sword and spear, but I come with God on my side! Today everyone will know there's a real God in Israel."
Then David put a stone in his slingshot, spun it around super fast, and—zoom—the stone flew and hit Goliath right in the forehead. Bonk! The giant fell down face-first. He was knocked out cold.
David ran over, grabbed Goliath's own huge sword, and finished the fight. Whoa! The big bully was finally defeated.
All the Philistines got so scared they ran away, and the Israelites chased them!
See, David wasn't big or strong, but he trusted God. That's why he won! It's like when big kids at school are mean, but you know God is with you, so you're not scared.
I think this teaches us that it doesn't matter if you're little. With God's help, you can do amazing things!
