More than 70 women from the Arkansas-Louisiana Conference gathered in Frisco, Tex., Sept. 18–20, for the Southwestern Union Women’s Ministries Retreat under the theme, “God Is in Our Story.” The gathering marked the conference’s largest attendance at a union Women’s Ministries retreat.

Throughout the weekend, women were reminded of a foundational truth: God is the Author of our lives. Through seasons of joy and seasons of uncertainty, through answered prayers and seemingly silent moments, God’s providence and provision remain with us. Even in the darkest chapters, He is still writing the story.

Desiree Bryant, associate director for ministerial spouses at the North American Division, challenged the women through multiple messages to place their complete trust in the Lord Almighty not only when life is going well, but also when the path is unclear. Her messages encouraged women to recognize God’s presence and faithfulness through every chapter of their lives.

The breakout seminars followed the theme as a journey through the chapters of life: The English session of “Chapter 1: The Beginning,” presented by Marjorie Bélizaire, the Arkansas-Louisiana Conference Women’s Ministries director.

One of the most talked-about highlights was Sabbath Morning’s “Generational Gap” presentation. Bélizaire introduced the concept of the generational gap and emphasized that we are “one faith, many generations.” Every generation has something valuable to contribute to Women’s Ministries. A lively panel featuring six women representing generations from the Silent Generation through Generation Z explored how different generations can learn from one another and strengthen Women’s Ministries. The honest and thought-provoking conversation demonstrated that our differences can become opportunities for greater understanding, collaboration, and ministry.

The evening recycled fashion show brought creativity and laughter to the retreat. Women were challenged to create dresses, purses, accessories, and other fashion pieces using only items they already had—nothing new! From old bags and pins to repurposed materials, the creativity on display was remarkable.

The convention center was also filled with ministry booths, resources, and visual reminders of God’s love. The Arkansas-Louisiana Conference’s booth centered on the message “Beautifully Made by God.”

As the retreat came to a close, women joined hands and recommitted themselves to embracing the next chapter of their lives.

For the women of the Arkansas-Louisiana Conference, this retreat was a reminder that our stories matter, our broken pages are not the end, and God is faithful through every chapter.
