For a little over three decades, Freddy Lawrence Sr. served as Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church’s treasurer, a position that he managed so efficiently that it earned him the title “Sheriff.” During his time of service, he would see Berean’s pastors, as well as presidents of our country, enter and exit. However, as time and life would have it, our “Sheriff’s” tenure would eventually come to an end.
In recognition of his dedicated service, we recently honored him during a segment of our 11 a.m. Sabbath service. Lawrence’s wife, Margaret, stood by his side as his successor, Corine Pugh, joined current and former finance staff members for the recognition. Pastor T. Ron Weegar applauded Lawrence for his dedication and praised God for his service. Pugh read from the “Certification of Appreciation” plaque, which included the scripture Scripture: “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2, KJV).
When asked what the recognition meant to him, Lawrence responded, “I’m grateful to God for having had this opportunity to serve Him in this capacity. It has been a blessing.”
Weegar ended the recognition with a prayer of gratitude, to which the audience concurred with a resounding “Amen!”
